POCKET CASSINO

The card game Cassino is a traditional card fishing game suitable for two to four players. It involves considerable skill and strategy, with a touch of luck. The game utilizes one standard deck of 52 cards. The objective is to capture cards from a layout on the table by playing a card from hand that matches the rank of a table card or the sum of several table cards. Points can be earned by capturing specific cards or by having the majority of cards or spades at the end of the game.

Set up

  1. A standard 52-card deck is used.
  2. Two to four players can play.
  3. Four cards are dealt to each player and four cards are dealt face-up on the table.
  4. The dealer rotates clockwise after each round.

Objective

The main aim is to capture cards from the table. Captured cards are collected in a pile in front of the player. The game is scored based on the cards captured and other actions in the game.

Rules

  1. Capture by Pairing: A card from the player's hand can capture a card on the table if the cards have the same rank. For example, a player can capture a 4 from the table with a 4 from their hand.
  2. Capture by Combining: A card from the player's hand can capture multiple cards if the sum of the cards on the table equals the card played. For example, if there are a 2 and a 4 on the table, and you have a 6 in your hand, you can capture all three cards.
  3. Building: Instead of capturing cards, a player may also choose to 'build' by placing a card from their hand onto a card or set of cards on the table. The intention is to capture this build in a later turn if it is not captured by another player first.
  4. Multiple Builds (Call): It's also possible to create multiple builds where a set of cards can be captured by a single card.
  5. Capturing a Build: A build can be captured by playing a card of the same value as the build.
  6. Sweep: If a player captures all the cards on the table, it is called a 'sweep,' and it earns an extra point.

Scoring

Different cards have different point values:

  • Each Ace:
  • 1 point
  • Big Cassino (10♦️):
  • 2 points
  • Little Cssino (2♠️):
  • 1 point
  • Most Spades (7+):
  • 1 point
  • Most Cards (27+):
  • 3 points
  • Sweeps:
  • 1 point

The game continues until the deck is depleted, and the player with the highest score wins.

    Strategy

The game involves a good deal of strategy, including deciding when to build, when to capture, and what cards to keep for later use.

This is a general outline and the rules can vary. Always check local or house rules if you're playing in a new setting.
