About the Game
Solitaire is the card game you can play with just a deck and a quiet moment. Sort a shuffled pack into ordered foundations by moving cards between piles under a simple set of rules — easy to learn, endlessly replayable, and different every deal. It has been the world's default way to pass five minutes for decades.
Pocket Solitaire brings the classics together in one app: Klondike for the purists, Spider for the patient, and FreeCell for those who like a game they can almost always win. Forgiving undo, smooth animations, and a daily board make it just as good for a quick clear as for a long, careful solve.
How to Set Up (Klondike)
- Deck: A standard 52-card deck, no jokers.
- Tableau: Seven piles with 1 to 7 cards — only the top card of each pile is face-up.
- Stock & Waste: The remaining cards form the stock; flip them to the waste as you play.
- Foundations: Four empty piles, one per suit, built up from Ace to King.
Objective
Move all 52 cards to the four foundations, each built up in suit order from Ace to King. To get there you'll reorganise the tableau — building descending, alternating-color sequences, freeing buried cards, and drawing from the stock — until every card can travel home.
Game Rules
Build Down, Alternating Colors
On the tableau, stack cards in descending rank with colors alternating red and black.
Move Sequences
Drag an already-ordered run of cards from one pile to another in a single motion.
Kings to Empty Columns
Only a King — or a sequence led by a King — may be moved into an empty tableau column.
Foundations Build Up
Send each Ace up first, then build 2 through King on the foundation of the same suit.
Flip the Stock
When no move is available, deal from the stock to the waste — one card or three at a time.
Undo Without Penalty
Rewind a move freely to explore a cleaner line — planning ahead is part of the game.
Variants at a Glance
| Variant | How It Plays |
|---|---|
| Klondike | The classic seven-pile game; choose 1-card or 3-card draw. |
| Spider | Build same-suit runs and clear full King-to-Ace sequences off the board. |
| FreeCell | Every card dealt face-up, plus four free cells — almost every deal is winnable. |
Tip: New to Solitaire? Start with Klondike, 1-card draw.
Winning Strategy
- Free the Aces and Twos: Get low cards to the foundations early so the tableau has room to breathe.
- Expose Face-Down Cards: Prioritise moves that flip a hidden card over ones that don't — buried cards win games.
- Empty a Column: An open column is your most flexible asset; hold it for a King you actually need.
- Think Before You Draw: Exhaust your tableau moves before flipping the stock — every draw changes what's reachable.
- Keep Colors Balanced: Try not to bury a color you'll need; watch which reds and blacks are still in play.
- Use Undo to Plan: Test a line, and if it dead-ends, rewind and try another order of moves.
- Learn Each Variant: Spider rewards same-suit runs and FreeCell rewards patience — adjust your plan to the game.
