How to Set Up
- Deck: Use a standard 52-card deck (no jokers).
- Players: 2 to 4 players. For 2-3 players, each receives 4 cards. For 4 players, each receives 3.
- Initial Deal: Deal 4 cards to each player and 4 face-up on the table.
- Redealing: When hands are exhausted, deal 4 more from the deck (not to the table) until deck runs out.
Objective
The objective of Pocket Cassino is to accumulate the most points over multiple hands. Players earn points by capturing cards from the table through strategic play. The game requires a combination of memory, calculation, and forward-thinking strategy to outmaneuver opponents and secure high-value card combinations.
Game Rules
Capture by Pairing
Match a hand card value to a table card. Both cards are captured and placed in your pile.
Capture by Combining
Play a card equal to the combined values of multiple table cards. All cards involved are captured in one turn.
Building
Combine a hand card with table cards to create a build with a target value. You must capture your build on your next turn if possible.
Multiple Builds (Call)
Build multiple combinations in a single turn, each with different target values. You can capture from any of your builds on subsequent turns.
Capturing a Build
You must capture your own build on your next turn if you have a matching card in hand. Other players cannot capture your builds.
Sweep
Capture all table cards in one turn. This special move is worth 1 point and is tracked separately for bonus scoring.

Winning Strategy
- Plan Ahead: Think multiple moves ahead. Consider what cards your opponents might play and how the remaining deck will impact future turns.
- Prioritize Big Cassino: The 10 of Diamonds is worth 2 points. Protect it or capture it early when possible to secure those bonus points.
- Build Strategically: Use builds to force opponents into difficult positions. Create builds that only you can capture with cards in your hand.
- Track the Deck: Keep mental notes of which cards have been played. This helps predict what's coming and adjust your strategy accordingly.
- Go for Sweeps: Sweeps are valuable and rare. If you have the opportunity to capture all table cards, do so. It's worth the extra point.
- Manage Your Hand: Don't play high-value cards early. Save them for critical moments when you can capture valuable table cards.
- Spades Matter: Collect spades strategically. Getting 7+ spades earns you a bonus point and can be a decisive factor late in the game.
- Card Count: Aim to capture 27 or more cards total. This grants 3 bonus points, one of the highest single rewards in the game.
